Parkland Home
    All distance learning courses can be challenging, enriching and convenient, but they are not for everyone. They should not be seen as an easy way to earn credits. In fact, these learning environments require as much or more time and energy than traditional classroom learning.

    Read the Computer Requirements section and then take the Self-Assessment Quiz to see how well-prepared you are for online learning.



    Computer Requirements
    To succeed in an online course at Parkland, you should have regular, easy access to a computer that meets the following specifications:

      Operating System: Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT or higher
      or
      Mac OS System 8.1 or higher
      Internet Connection: 36k Modem or higher (recommended)
      Web Browser: Microsoft Explorer 5.0 or higher (preferred)
      or
      Netscape 4.0 or higher
      Processor: 300 Mhz or higher (recommended)

      Memory: 32 Mg or higher (recommended)

      Monitor: Bigger is better.
      Courses look best at 800 x 600 and up.
      Multimedia: A CD-ROM, speakers, or video card may be required for your course. Check with your instructor or read the course information page.
      Other Software: At minimum, a word processing program able to save files in RTF format. Examples: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works, WordPad, Recent versions of WordPerfect.
